What to expect from this ‘AI for HR: in practice’ course
This half day facilitator-led practical course equips people professionals with both the knowledge and skills to use AI tools confidently and effectively in their day to day work. It combines best practice guidance with practical application, so you'll be writing, testing, and refining real prompts throughout, with feedback at every step.
You'll build a toolkit for turning AI into a reliable working partner: applying prompting best practices to high quality results from any AI tool, and shaping outputs so they carry your own voice rather than sounding generic. You'll also learn about the role of AI agents to automate routine tasks and keep output quality consistent.
You'll put all of this into practice across the full employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to development and offboarding, writing prompts that tackle the kinds of tasks people professionals face in their roles.
By the end, you'll have hands on experience writing effective prompts for a wide range of real work scenarios.
This course builds on our AI in HR: fundamentals course. Before starting, we assume you're already comfortable with the following concepts, as they will not be covered in this course:
- Core AI and GenAI concepts, including machine learning, automation and robotics
- The risks and opportunities of using AI in the workplace

What you’ll need to do on this CIPD ‘AI for HR: in practice’ course
This is a half-day virtual live course. You'll learn through facilitated online lessons, hands-on activities and real-world scenarios covering tasks people professionals face across the employee lifecycle.
Before attending the course, we recommend familiarising yourself with your organisation’s AI policy and any guidance on the use of AI tools. This will help you take part in the practical activities confidently and ensure that your use of AI during the course is in line with your organisation’s requirements, and you will need to have access to the internet and a laptop (or any equivalent device).
