What to expect from this ‘AI and GenAI in HR' course
AI is changing the people profession more rapidly than any other technological advancement did before. But knowing where to start, and how to build from there, isn't always easy. Delivered together over two days, these three CIPD courses take you from first principles to confident, everyday use of AI and GenAI in your work.
Day 1 (AM): AI for HR fundamentals (understand it) course will help create a strong foundation to build your AI competence on. You'll begin with the building blocks of AI, including machine learning, natural language processing, robotics, and generative AI, so you can speak confidently with colleagues. You'll explore how AI is already being applied across the employee lifecycle, weigh up the opportunities and risks, and learn how to design an AI policy for your organisation.
Day 1(PM): AI for HR in practice (start using it). With that grounding in place, you'll move to hands-on practice. You'll write, test, and refine real prompts across the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to development and offboarding, and learn to shape outputs so they carry your own voice rather than sounding generic. You'll also learn about the role of AI agents in automating routine tasks.
Day 2 (full day): GenAI in practice (use it confidently with skill and judgement). On the second day, you'll build on everything you've learned and go further with GenAI than most people in the profession have yet gone, developing the skill and judgement to use it reliably in your role. You'll see how large language models work and why they can sound convincing while being wrong, apply a robust prompting framework to everyday tasks, and use AI to clean and analyse workforce data and check its method. You'll build and test your own AI assistant, then judge where AI agents fit and which decisions must stay with a human. You'll leave with tested instructions for your own assistant, prompts you can reuse, and a 30/60/90 day action plan.
By the end of the two days, you'll have moved from understanding the fundamentals to using AI and GenAI confidently in your daily work, with the knowledge to do it responsibly and the skills to get reliable, high-quality results. These skills matter not only for your career, but also for your workload, helping you progress, influence stakeholders, and shape how work gets done in the people profession.
